The major components of a transmission and distribution system typically include transmission lines, distribution lines, substations, and switchyards.

Transmission lines carry electricity from the generating plant where it is produced, and distribution lines carry electricity to the houses, offices, and industries where it is used.

This program is designed to provide employees who must work in or around substations with a comprehensive understanding of the operation, equipment, and procedures associated with substations. The course will consist of a discussion of general safety processes and procedures to be followed when entering substations.

Further study will cover the areas of: substation protective relays, switching operation and procedures, substation switchyards, metering, substation batteries, and transformers.
